ABOUT HEART & SOUL SHOES
Heart and Soul Shoes was founded on a simple thought: that no child should have to face the world in shoes that don't support them—physically or emotionally. Our story began in 2016 when I began volunteering with the Lunch Buddy Program, spending time with children who, for various reasons by a case worker or counselor, needed a mentor. One day, during a lunch with a third grader, I saw something that would change my perspective.
A young boy, like many others, was full of energy, but as we headed outside for recess, I noticed him carefully taping the sole of his shoes back onto the upper. As a child, I knew the feeling of having to make do with what you had, and this child was starting his day already disadvantaged. Later that night, I emailed his teacher, who confirmed that he had been coming to school with shoes in this condition for some time. Without hesitation, we arranged for a new pair to be delivered to him, anonymously and discreetly.
That simple act of kindness sparked a new sense of purpose in me. It wasn’t just about providing one child with a new pair of shoes—it was about doing more. I knew from my own experiences what it was like to need a little help, to feel unseen or overlooked. That one pair of shoes wasn’t enough. Together with my husband, Ben, we decided to take action, and Heart and Soul Shoes was born.
At Heart and Soul Shoes, our mission is to provide children in need with new, or like new, shoes, ensuring they have a solid foundation to face their day with pride. We believe in making a difference—one pair of shoes at a time—and in doing so, we hope to uplift not only their steps, but their spirits as well.
Our community is at the heart of everything we do. Through donations, volunteer efforts, and collaborations with schools, social workers, and community organizations, we are committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to walk into their future, no matter the circumstances they face today.
Together, we’re not just providing shoes, it's about hope, dignity, and the reminder that someone cares.
